THE WORD

Preacher:

Preacher: Pastor M Mukosi | It is written “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes out of the mouth of God – Matthew 4:4

There are two types of the Word that feed us: the “Logos” and the “Rhema”.

The word “Logos” is a Greek word which means “written word.” The Bible, for instance, is an example of a Logos.  The word “Rhema” in Greek is referred to as “spoken word.” Many Bible scholars and theologians refer to a Rhema word as being a right now word, or a word for a specific person and a specific situation.

When we read the Bible, the Word never changes. We’re taking in the Logos. It’s the same Logos or written Word that was there in the beginning. When you’re at church, and the minister preaches a sermon, they’ll speak the word in a way that you get an understanding. The clarity that you get as a result of the sermon, is a Rhema word. When it comes to studying the Bible, which is the Logos, there will be times when you get an understanding or revelation beyond the words that are written on the page. That understanding and revelation that you get is another example of a Rhema word.

A Rhema word can be a result of the Logos or it can come directly from God at a particular point in time to guide you and show you what you need to do.  The Rhema word can come at anytime. You can be driving in your car, shopping at the store, or at work and God can speak something in your spirit. This Rhema word, that He speaks may come telling you what you need to do, where you need to go, or it can be something to sooth your mind and give you peace. Usually when you get a Rhema word, you get an emotion of joy or excitement that comes with it. The more you read and study the scriptures and develop a relationship with Christ, the more He will speak clearly into your heart. The Bible, or Logos, will always be here for us. When you study the Bible, pray that God will also speak a Rhema word (or a right now word) into your heart for your current situation.

The word of God has a solution for every challenge I face.

Psalms 71:5 | MSG

5 You keep me going when times are tough—my bedrock, God, since my childhood.

Psalms 107:20 says that God has given us his word to heal us and to deliver us from our distressing situations.

Job 23:12 | NKJV

12 I have not departed from the commandment of His lips; I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.

Jeremiah 15:16 | NKJV

16 Your words were found, and I ate them, And Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; For I am called by Your name, O Lord God of hosts.

The confidence and joy of knowing what the word of God says and knowing that God is on our side. He is my Father. He promised never to leave us nor forsake us.
